2nd All State Spartakiad - Strahov Stadium - 220
Tens of thousands young people came from all cornes of Czechoslovakia to perform in mass sport event called Spartakiad, a word derived from the gladiator turned rebel leader Spartacus in ancient Rome. Spartacus was believed to symbolize the international proletarianism and the first Spartakiad happened in 1928 in Moscow. In Prague this synchronized gymnastic event took place at Strahov Stadium, the world largest stadium capable to hold 220 000 spectators. Prague, Czechoslovakia 1960. (CTK Photo)
