Bata headquarters

Gottwaldov, 1949. Formely Zlin was the European shoe capital run by Bata family. Bata factories together with other light and heavy industry was confiscated after WWII by the Czechoslovak government under so called Benes Decrees. Jan Antonin Bata who helped hundreds of Czechoslovaks including Jews from being transported to labor camps or death camps was tried for treason. He emigrated to Canada where he continued a successful shoe business. CTK Vintage Photo
