Cheb - liberation celebration - Jan Masaryk
Czechoslovakia, Cheb April 28th 1947. Jan Masaryk speaks during unveiling of the memorial to fallen Americans who liberated western Bohemia in 1945. This fact was a thorn in the eye of the Communist government which came to power in a putsch in February 1948 and later removed all plaques and memorials to fallen Americans. The statues of Red Army liberators were put up instead. This lie would not go along with Czech citizens who remembered the events. CTK Vintage Photo
