Communist Party manifestation

Prague June 4th 1947. Communist Party leaders Klement Gottwald, Rudolf Slasky, Vaclav Kopecky, Vaclav Nosek, Julius Dolansky and Marie Svermova cheer during Communist manifestation at Old Town Square. In february 1948 they seized power in a Communist putsch and totalitarian regime lasting over 40 years brought this country to the verge of bancruptcy and despair. Rudolf Slansky, sitting with Gottwald, was arrested in 1951 and sentenced for treason and espionage. None of the charge were true and the entire trial was constructed. He and 12 others were executed in 1952. This infamous trial was anti semitic as the Soviet union assumed pro Arabic policies and supported antisemitism. CTK Vintage Photo
