Novelist and playwright Pavel Kohout at work in his Prague flat. Kohout, a devoted Communist, became a dissident after Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. In 1977 he cofounded and cosigned, together with Vaclav Havel, Zdenek Mlynar, etc, Charter 77 calling for greater freedoms. He was expatriated to Austria by Czechoslovak authorities.
