Praha - Vltava - led ledovani - zima
Czechoslovakia, Prague 1947. In times when refrigirators were scrace or non existent ice blocks were extracted from Vltava River in the late winter or early spring and delivered to restaurants and homes to protect the perishable goods. The ice blocks were insulated by layers of hay to last until fall. In other parts of the country the ice was retrieved from frozen lakes or rivers. CTK Vintage Photo
