Vera Caslavska and her husband Josef Odlozil during their meeting with Parliament speaker Josef Smrkovsky in Prague, October 31, 1968. Shortly after the Warsaw Pact invasion of her Czechoslovakia, Caslavska defeated her Russian rivals at the 1968 summer Olympics in Mexico City and with six olympic medals became a national hero and sports gymnastics legend.
