Barricaded checkpoint at Glienicker Brucke in Berlin

Embattled soldiers of the US Army standing at the checkpoint at Glienicker Brucke in Berlin on 4th September 1962. The Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR were splitted by an iron curtain between west and east from the day of the building of the wall on 13th August 1961 until the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9th November 1989. The authorities of the Soviet Zone renamed the bridge Brucke der Einheit (bridge of unity)
