Building of the Berlin Wall
A construction worker from East Berlin errects a head-high wall in the direction of Lindenstrasse street under the supervision of an armed national police officer at Potsdam Square at the border of the Soviet-American sector in Berlin, GDR, 18 August 1961. Already in the morning of 13 Augst, GDR armed forces had begun to isolate East Berlin with road blocks and barbwire. The Wall is supposed to hinder fugitives from entering West Berlin
