Bundestag votes in favour of unification treaty

Members of the Bundestag, among them (L-R front) ministers Theo Waigel, Hans Engelhard, Wolfgang Schaeuble, Hans-Dietrich Genscher and Rudolf Seiters stand up and sing the national anthem after the speaker announced the positive result of the vote on the unification treaty in Bonn, Germany, 20 September 1990. The same day GDR Volkskammer (Parliament) in Berlin voted in favour of the treaty with a two-thirds majority as well. The results of the vote in detail: Bundestag (vote by name): 442 mps voted in favour, 47 against the treaty, three abstained from voteing. GDR Volkskammer: 299 mps voted in favour, 80 against the treaty and one abstained from voting
