Commander of the Matchmaker fleet, Dutch Captain Franz Visse (l), talks to German lieutenant Hulsemann (r), who had just been brought onto the destroyer Zeeland D-809 from the US destroyer USS McCloy in a high line manoeuvre during the NATO exercise Matchmaker III. A joint maritime task force was tested under the name Matchmaker by the NATO from 1965 to 1967. Troops from the Netherlands, the USA, Great Britain and Germany did participate. The Standing Naval Force Atlantic (SNFL) emerged from Matchmaker, which was an precursor of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1)
