Destroyed island of Helgoland

The destroyed harbour of Helgoland (undated picture). A British air raid destroyed the village of Helgoland completely on the 18th of April in 1945. After World War II the population was expelled from the island, while it was occupied by Britain for seven years and destroyed by blastings. The island was given back on the 1st of March in 1952 at midnight, which was celebrated with a ceremony. Photo: dpa Photo: dpa
