A GDR border soldier stands in front of a broken lattice fence on the Eastern part of Glienicke Bridge in Potsdam on the 10th of March in 1988, after three GDR citizens had escaped to the West by breaking through the border with a truck. Glienicke Bridge between Berlin and Potsdam was known world-wide as symbol for the East-West confrontation.
