US helicopter Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe during the manoeuvre REFO
A cargo helicopter of the type Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe of the US army on a field near Nuremberg on 23 January 1969. Because of the bad weather the helicopters, of which the name Tarhe refers to a chief of the Wyandot Indians whose nickname was the crane, had to stay down. The machines were in operation for the manoeuvre REFORGER I - Return of Forces to Germany'. Altogether about 17.000 soldiers participated in the manoeuvre, many of them were brought from the USA to Germany via air bridge. The equipment of the soldiers has already been in depots in Germany for the most part
