John Major during festivities on farewell of western Allies
British prime minister John Major (l) talks to an officer of the British air force during the official ceremony on the occasion of the farewell of the western Allies from Berlin and the commemoration of the victims of the Berlin embago on the 8th of September in 1994 at the Airlift Monument. Besides Major, German chancellor Kohl, as well as French head of state Mitterand and US foreign minister Warren Christopher, participated in the festivities. Like Russia did, the governments of the western Allies withdrew all their troops from Berlin at the end of 1994 after 49 years
