Olympic Games 1972: the end of hostage-taking

The end of the failed rescue operation in the night of 6 September 1972 at the military airport in Furstenfeldbruck: a helicopter of the Federal Border Police is only a wreck (l). In the background, a US transport plane, with the killed Israeli wrestler David Berger, is taking off. All nine Israeli hostages, five Arabian terrorists, and a Munich police officer lost their lives during the operation. Arabian terrorists of the group Black September had attacked the Israeli accommodation in the Olympic village, killed two Israelis and took nine hostages in the morning of 5th September. Their ultimatum: release of 200 imprisoned Palestinians and free passage with the other hostages
