Olympic Games 1972: memorial ceremony after terrorist attack
Members of the Israeli Olympic team arrive at the Munich Olympic Stadium, on 6 September 1972, for the memorial ceremony for the victims of the Palestinian terrorist attack. Arabian terrorists of the group Black September had attacked the Israeli accommodation in the Olympic village, killed two Israelis and took nine hostages in the morning of 5th September. Their ultimatum: release of 200 imprisoned Palestinians and free passage with the other hostages. In the night of 6th September, the rescue operation at the military airport Furstenfeldbruck fails. All nine hostages, five terrorists, and a Munich police officer lose their lives during the operation
