Olympic Games 1972: Willy Brandt and Ben Horin
Memorial ceremony, on 6 September 1972, at the Munich Olympic Stadium, for the victims of the terrorist attack on the Israeli Olympic team during the Summer Olympics. Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt (l) and Israel's Bonn ambassador Ben Horin are appalled by the tragic events. Arabian terrorists of the group Black September had attacked the Israeli accommodation in the Olympic village, killed two Israelis and took nine hostages. The rescue operation in the night of 6th September at the military airport Furstenfeldbruck fails. The nine hostages, a Munich police officer, and five terrorists lost their lives. The games were interrupted for 34 hours, extended for one day, and finished
