Otto Suhr and Walter Klein arrive for negotiations about Hou
Mayor of Berlin Otto Suhr (r) and director of the senat Walter Klein (m) are welcomed by a Soviet officer after their arrival in Berlin-Karlshorst on the 4th of July in 1956. Suhr and Klein met the Soviet town major of Berlin, General Chamov, to sign the protocol about the handover of the House of Broadcasting in Berlin-Charlottenburg to the senat of Berlin. Although it was located in the British sector of Berlin, the House of Broadcasting was used by the Broadcast of Berlin and controlled by the Soviets after World War II until 1952. After a temporary blocking by the British Army, the building was given to the Senate of Berlin only in July 1956, who handed it over to the broadcaster Freies Berlin ('Free Berlin') after extensive renovation works
