Post-war era - Berlin airlift 1949

Solemn honor on Berlin-Tempelhof airport, in the western part of the city, for a new airlift record of the American and British pilots - within 24 hours, on 16 April 1949, 12, 849 tons of food, coal, and raw materials are flown into the blocked city with 1, 383 flights. Date unknown. 50 years ago, on 24 June 1948, the USSR imposed a blockade on Berlin as a reaction to the currency reform. All land and waterways were blocked for passenger and freight traffic between West Berlin and West Germany. The supply of the West Berlin population and the western allied occupation took place by an airlift established by the USA and Great Britain
