The majority of the population of the three southwestern states has argued in favor of the founding of a new southwestern state at a national referendum on 9th December 1951. Finally the new federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg was formed of the states Baden, Wurttemberg-Baden, and Wurttemberg-Hohenzollern on the 25th of April in 1952
