View of the barren and shot to pieces manoeuvre area with rests of a village on the US military training area Grafenwohr in Bavaria on 5 February 1959. At this time, Grafenwohr was the scene of the big winter manoeuvre of the US army. The highlight of the manoeuvre, in which 60.000 soldiers participated, was the simulation of a nuclear attack which was observed from the Feldherrenhugel by around 40 NATO generals
