US troop transport to Berlin leads through Soviet zone
US combat groups crossing checkpoint Helmstedt in the Lower Saxony on their way to Berlin on 20th August 1961. The American soldiers, coming from the FGR, had to drive through the Soviet zone to reinforce the US troops already stationed in Berlin. The journey proceeded without any problems
