Soldiers of the US army stand behind a heavy Patton tank of the US army at the border crossing point Friedrichstrasse in Berlin on the 23rd of August in 1961. From the 13th of August in 1961, the day of the construction of the Wall, until the fall of the Wall on the 9th of November in 1989, the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR were seperated into West and East by the Iron Curtain
