U.S. soldiers become freemen of a small German town
The mayor of Volkartshain, Reinhold Kempel (left), hands over the honorary citizen certificates of his town to the two U.S. soldiers William T. Ebert (middle) and Kenneth Bakos (right) on 21 December 1966. With a daring manoeuvre, both were able to avoid the fall of their burning airplane above Volkartshain and so they protected the town from a catastrophe
