Wilhelm Pieck
Wilhelm Pieck, later president of the GDR, while laying down a wreath in Berlin on the 9th of November in 1928. Wilhelm Pieck, skilled carpenter, joined the SPD in Marburg in 1895. He was elected into the central committee of the KPD and was most important man of the party besides Thalmann. He escaped into the Soviet Union via France in 1933, where he led the exile KPD. After 1945, he came into office of the party chairmanship of the SED together with Otto Grotewohl and beacme first (and last) president of the GDR on the 11th of October in 1949. Wilhlem Pieck was born on the 3rd of January in 1876 in Guben and died in Berlin (GDR) on the 7th of September in 1960
