World War I - Verdun
Conquered French positions in the forest of Verdun. Round 700.000 people died at the Battle of the French city Verdun(February until December 1916). The deadly shots by Serbian nationalists on the Austrian heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand on the 28th of June in 1914 in Sarajevo caused the outbreak of the Great War, later to be called World War I, in August 1914. The Central Powers, namely Germany, Austria-Hungary and as well later the Ottoman Empire (Turkey) and Bulgaria against the Triple Entente, consisting of Great Britain, France and Russia, as well as numerous allies. The sad result of World War I, which ended with the defeat of the Central Powers: round 8.5 million soldiers killed in action, more than 21 million injured people and almost 8 million prisoners of war and missing people
