A chest plate of a Roman suit of armour, mid-2nd - mid-3rd

A chest plate of a Roman suit of armour, mid-2nd - mid-3rd century Metal sheet with two fully preserved images of a right chest plate of a lorica from the mid-imperial period (scale or chain mail armour), the top of the upper, triangular image area missing, the section framing the bead frieze which used to surround the images already removed in antiquity. The holes and slits for the fastening of the plate to the lorica and the toggleclosure were located in this peripheral section. At bottom: bull facing to the right, surmounted by a large, central image of the seated Jove, in his right hand a thunderbolt, his left hand raised to hold a sceptre, which was however not executed by the manufacturer. In the top image area, only fragmentarily preserved, the tail feathers of an eagle visible. The bull was probably the emblem of a legion. Green patina on a layer of red copper.
