The ambassador chooses Nanarus

Scene in the Babylonian court of Nanarus where he entertains an ambassador sent by the Assyrian ruler Aertaeus to find his friend, and claimant to the throne of Babylon, Persondes. Nanarus, who was maligned for his effeminate appearance and character had captured Persondes and by shaving his beard, forcing him to have his body smooth with pumice and anointed with oils had made him almost as effeminate. The ambassador who came to find Persondes was impressed by the hospitality shown to him. Nanarus asked him to choose his favourite from the 150 dancing girls paraded before him. The girl who the ambassador chose turned out to be Persondes
