The Apothecary's Shop by Willem Van Mieris
An apothecary at work in his shop, with the accoutrements of his trade about him. Behind him on shelves are blue and white Delft ware drug and syrup jars and above, a wrought iron bracket from which hang polished scales. Framing the shop interior are sponges and poppy heads, both symbols of the apothecary's trade. Willem van Mieris (1662-1747) specialised in painting shop scenes
