The Rye Lifeboat disaster. A unsuccessful attempt at applying artificial respiration to a lifeboat man washed up from the wreck. On the 15th November a horrendous disaster occurred causing a crew of seventeen lifeboat men to perish in a raging sea. The crew belonged to Rye Harbour, the whole village went into mourning. The inquest criticised the lifebelts, they were found completely water logged
