Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Heir-Presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne, in a photograph with his wife, Sophie and their three children. The Archduke and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo on 28th June1914 by Serbian nationalists, led by Gavrilo Princips. Austria used the incident as a pretext for attacking Serbia, which precipitated World War I
