Attempted assassination of Indian Viceroy 1912

During a State Entry into Delhi, on 23rd December 1912, Lord Charles Hardinge, 1st Baron Hardinge of Penshurst (1858 - 1944) British diplomat and statesman who served as Viceroy of India, and his wife Lady Hardinge, Winifred Selina Sturt Hardinge (nee Sturt), (1868 - 1914), were riding on a howdah, on a State elephant when a bomb was thrown at them. It exploded in the howdah, but mainly backwards, killing one of the attendants on the back of the elephant. Lord Hardinge was wounded by a fragment of the bomb which struck his right shoulder, Lady Hardinge escaped the effects of the bomb
