Ayrton and Perry

Professor William Ayrton and Professor John Perry, electrical engineers. Ayrton held the post of Professor of Natural Philosophy and Telegraphy at the Imperial College of Engineering, Japan, later becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society and holding several teaching posts, with a reputation for excellent, practical-based teaching. Together with Perry, he invented many electrical measuring instruments, including a spiral-spring ammeter and wattmeter. They also developed an electrical railway and invented the first electrical tricycle in 1882
