Balcombe Tunnel 1881
The entrance to the Balcombe Tunnel, on the London to Brighton line. The body of Isaac Gold, a coin dealer, was discovered in the tunnel on 27 June 1881. He had been murdered on a train by Percy Lefroy Mapleton, who was tried, convicted, and hanged at Lewes on 29 November 1881
