Bessie Braddock as outsize fashion queen
Mrs Bessie Braddock (right) in her role as "outsize fashion queen". Bessie Braddock (1899 - 1970), Labour MP for the Liverpool Exchange Division with Miss Elizabeth Fry as they display the same model gown at the Dorchester Outsize Fashion Display in London, 1951. Mrs Braddock is in demand for opening outsize fashion shows. Her comments are always pithy, as witness her statement: "I like a dress that someone with decent hips can wear." On colour schemes she says: "You are always all right in navy blue." She has described the New Look as "the ridiculous whim of idle people."
