Blackout. Fuel-crisis shopping in London, 1947
The Candlelights of London: business as usual in the capital. Fuel-crisis shopping with department store lighting - modern style. The fuel crisis, and consequent five-hour-daily cuts in electricity supply to domestic and business users, shocked Great Britain's social and industrial life. By 10th February 1947, daytime London became a city of candlelight with business conducted by the flickering light of candles and old Civil Defence hurricane lamps
