Bredhurst isolated by snow in 1947
An aerial view showing squads of men cutting their way through drifts to the village of Bredhurst which, although only four miles from Chatham in Kent, was for a short period completely cut off from the outside world. At some points the drifts were several feet deep and no section of the road had less than 2 ft of snow. This scene is typical of the winter of 1947, one of the harshest in Britain's history
