British Broadcasting from Within
A series of views of work going on at the BBC's Broadcasting House by both performers and engineers, images from the first photographic survey of the corporation according to The Sphere, who published the pictures. Included on this fourth page of the special feature is broadcaster Gerald Heard in front of the microphone, and in Studio D decorated as a book-lined study for the backdrop to his lectures. Also shown is the Artistes foyer, the news room with the chief announcer receiving information from the news editor, the BBC piano accompanist, Messrs Holt Marvell and S.P.B. Mais argue before the mike in the Discussion Studion, no 8B, members of the cast of Val Gielgud's radio drama including Martita Hunt and Margaretta Scott and Alice Delysia in a television broadcast. The small circular photograph in the middle shows Miss Betty Astell and Miss Betty Bolton in the first BBC televised broadcast on 22 August 1932, and dancer Donina is also shown in front of the television eye
