British Commandos attack St. Nazaire Dockyard, Second World

Illustration showing the scene at St. Nazaire docks just after HMS Campbeltown (right) had rammed the gates of the Normandie dry-dock, March 1942. British Commandos can be seen moving across the dock walls to attack other German positions. HMS Campbeltown was used as an explosive ram on the gates of the Nazi controlled dry dock, to prevent the use of the dock by German battleships. This image was drawn by Captain Bryan de Grineau from a description given to him by J. Gordon Holman who was present at St. Nazaire
