The British Embassy at Paris; Paris Commune 1871
British Embassy in Paris on 23rd May 1871. The embassy mansion, in the rue du Faubourg St Honore, was hit by shells and shot during fighting between the Communards and the Versailles Government. Government troops made their way through the gardens of the Embassy to storm the Communard barricades. They succeeded but their commander, General Piquemalle, was mortally wounded
