Sir Robert and Lady Ho-Tung, who had travelled to Britain in 1924 for the British Empire Exhibition. Sir Robert was a prominent merchant in Hong Kong and associated with the firm of Jardine, Matheson and Co. a company trading in cotton, silk and tea as well as other commodities
