Bill, who was of a differing opinion, was shot yesterday.'~~~~Surrendering to the enemy could be a lottery, but for some, it was a way to survive the war; however the treatment of prisoners-of-war could vary dramatically on both sides. The British generally treated their Germany prisoners well, although the German treatment of prisoners-of-war could vary dramatically, a fact this Tommy has carefully observed.
