A busy wharf at Mulberry Harbour, also known as Port Winston, off Arromanches, Normandy. When the Allied Armies invaded Normandy in June 1944, they required the use of a port to unload supplies quickly. The Allied commanders decided to take a pre-fabricated port, made of caissons such as the one photographed, and build it at Arromanches Beach
