Caernarvon Castle by Dennis Flanders
Queen Eleanor's Gate, where Edward I is said to have presented his son to the Welsh, standing at the end of Caernarvon Castle ward. It was formerly approached by a drawbridge. It is flanked by semi-octagonal towers. The Castle Square, where part of the investiture ceremony will be held, lies behind the row of houses seen here. Caernarvon was the setting for the investitures of the Duke of Windsor and King Charles III as Prince of Wales, in 1911 and 1969 respectively. Tradition has it that Edward I presented his son to the Welsh as the first English Prince of Wales at Caernarvon in 1284
