Carmelite nuns build chapel at Presteigne

Some of the eighteen Carmelite nuns who had moved from Berkhamsted to a new home at, Presteigne, Radnorshire shown building their chapel. When they moved to the convent, they realised it was not large enough, and finding building contractors too expensive, decided to carry out the building work themselves. According to the caption in The Sphere, their knowledge came from a 6 shilling textbook about bricklaying! In addition to the chapel, they also built cloisters and cells
