Ceremony of the new passenger tunnel on the River Thames

The Lord Mayor, who was presented with a gold key for the purpose of opening the new passenger subway between Queen Victoria Street and Blackfriars Bridge. The subways were 10 ft. wide by 8 ft. high, lined with glazed white bricks, and illuminated by incandescent gas lamps
