Cherry Ripe by John Millais
Cherry Ripe by John Milliais, as it appeared in The Graphic Christmas issue of 1880. The original painting depicted Miss Edith Ramage, a relation of William Luson Thomas, founder of The Graphic. She was brought to Millais's studio in a costume she had worn at a fancy dress ball. It proved to be hugely popular when The Graphic published it. Afterwards the copyright was bought by Pears (who had also purchased Millais's Bubbles'). It was featured again in The Graphic Christmas Number 1919, which celebrated the magazine's fiftieth anniversary
