Churchill on holiday at Dieppe, 1911
Winston Churchill(1874 -1965), then the Home Secretary, snapped on his holidays at Dieppe in France. Churchill emerges from the sea and creeps along the shingle-his wife Clementine is pictured in the inset. Just over thirty years later, it would be Churchill tanks, named after the eminent statesman, that would be creeping over the chert shingle for the disasterous raid on Dieppe during World War Two
