Coiling of the Atlantic telegraph cable 1857
Coiling of the Atlantic cable on board H.M.S Agamemnon prior to the 1858 expedition to lay cable from Britain to North America. The cable was successfully laid on 5th August 1858, but the connection was lost on 20th October. Despite this, 723 telegraph messages had been successfully transmitted over 2500 miles
